FAQs

What is Salary Sacrifice?

Salary Sacrifice is an agreement to trade some of your basic salary in return for benefits of the same value. Your basic salary will be reduced by the cost of benefits you select, such as pension contributions or childcare vouchers.

The advantage of this is that you may save Income Tax and National Insurance. It is a change to your terms and conditions regarding your pay and benefits.

What happens if I don't log in during the annual selection window?

Some of your benefits will automatically rollover, but those with a benefit lock will not renew without action.

It’s important to log in and review your choices if you’re currently enrolled in Partner Health Assessment, Cycle to Work (if you purchased your voucher at the last annual window) or Cyber Security.

If you do not make any voluntary benefit selections, you’ll still receive your core benefits and your Flex Allowance will be transferred to your pension.

What is a Life Event?

You have an annual benefit selection window to make your choices using your Flex Allowance. If your circumstances change during your benefit year and you experience a Life Event, you can request a change outside of this window to certain benefits.

Life events include getting married or divorced, becoming a parent, a significant change of hours or salary, suffering from bereavement and changes to circumstances directly arising as a result of coronavirus (COVID-19).

If you are unsure whether your situation constitutes a Life Event, check online or contact the helpdesk.
